At buynow, our mission is to make on-demand ordering and logistics seamless, fast and reliable. The service charge helps us build and maintain a marketplace you can rely on every day.
For shopping orders, we calculate the service charge as a percentage of your item subtotal, including any selected add-ons. The delivery fee is not included in that calculation.
Where a maximum service charge applies, you pay the lower of the percentage-based amount and that maximum. This keeps the charge from continuing to rise on larger baskets once the limit is reached.
You can review the service charge as a separate line at checkout before paying. The amount shown there is the amount that applies to your order.
Behind every order, there is more at work.
The service charge contributes to the everyday costs of running buynow. These are the three main areas it helps support.
Technology that keeps your order moving.
Every order connects a customer, a store and a delivery partner. The service charge helps fund the apps, servers and systems that keep those connections working: browsing nearby stores, sending orders to vendors, sharing delivery updates and keeping your order details available when you need them.
It also helps us maintain the platform, fix problems and improve the ordering experience as we serve more communities across Ekiti State.
The cost of processing your payment.
Accepting an online payment comes with transaction processing costs. Payment providers charge for the infrastructure that moves money and confirms transactions. Part of the service charge helps cover these costs so you can pay through the options available at checkout.
It also supports the work of matching payments to orders and investigating payment issues. The service charge contributes to these costs collectively; it is not a statement of the exact processing fee for your individual payment.
People to help when you need a hand.
Reliable service takes people as well as technology. The charge helps support the team that answers order questions, follows up with vendors and delivery partners, and helps resolve payment or delivery problems.
When something needs attention, having the tools and people to investigate your order is part of the service we work to provide every day.
Know what goes into your total.
Is the service charge the same as the delivery fee?+
No. The delivery fee covers the delivery journey. The service charge helps fund the platform, transaction processing and customer support. They appear as separate amounts in your checkout breakdown, and the delivery fee is excluded from the percentage calculation.
Will a larger order always mean a larger service charge?+
The percentage-based charge grows with your item subtotal until it reaches any applicable maximum. When a maximum applies, the service charge stops at that amount even if you add more items. Check the service charge shown at checkout for your order.
Is the service charge a tax?+
No. It is a platform fee. Any applicable VAT is shown separately in your order breakdown.
Does this calculation apply to sending a parcel?+
Parcel bookings use a separate flat service charge rather than a percentage of a shopping basket. Review the parcel quote for the delivery fee, service charge and any applicable VAT before confirming.
What if I have a question about a charge?+
Contact our support team with your order reference and the charge you would like us to explain. Your order details help us investigate. Never share your card PIN, password or one-time security code.
